Why I Built AutoAttend: A Problem I Personally Faced
I completed my B.Tech from Maharishi Markandeshwar University between 2014 and 2018. Like many engineering colleges in India, there was a strict minimum attendance criterion of 75%.
Attendance wasn’t just a formality — it decided whether you were allowed to sit for exams.
Unfortunately, I learned this the hard way.
When Attendance Became a Bigger Problem Than Academics
During my engineering, I was barred from exams twice, not because of backlogs or poor performance, but only due to low attendance.
Academically, I was fine.
But attendance? That single number decided my fate.
What made it worse was this:
- There was no official system to check attendance daily or weekly
- No student portal
- No real-time updates
- No warnings until it was too late
By the time we realized attendance was short, the exam form window was already closed.
Trying Existing Attendance Apps (And Why They Failed Me)
To solve this, I searched for Android attendance tracker apps. I did find a few and installed them with hope.
But reality hit again.
Because of:
- Heavy academic pressure
- Classes, labs, assignments, and exams
- Mental fatigue
I often forgot to manually mark attendance in those apps.
As a result:
- Attendance records became inaccurate
- The app data could not be trusted
- The stress actually increased
At that point, I realized the core issue:
Manual attendance tracking does not work for stressed students.
The Idea That Changed Everything
That’s when a simple thought came to my mind:
“Why isn’t there an app that marks attendance automatically?”
I searched for an automatic attendance tracker — something smart, something reliable.
There was none.
And that day, I made a promise to myself:
One day, I will build an app that can track attendance automatically.
From Student Frustration to AutoAttend
At that time, building an app alone felt impossible. App development usually needs:
- Designers
- Developers
- Testers
- Analysts
But today, we live in a different era.
With the help of modern tools and Large Language Models (LLMs), a single person can now do the work of an entire team.
Using this advantage, I finally turned that old student frustration into reality.
And the result is AutoAttend.
What AutoAttend Represents
AutoAttend includes everything I personally felt was missing during my engineering days:
- Reduced manual effort
- Clear attendance insights
- Decision-focused information
- Student-first design
This app is not built from assumptions —it is built from real academic pain.
Still Improving — With Your Help
Even though AutoAttend already includes what I once needed as a student, I strongly believe:
There is always room for improvement.
That’s why I request my fellow students to:
- Use AutoAttend
- Share honest feedback
- Suggest improvements
Because the best student app is built with students, not just for them.
Final Words
AutoAttend is more than an app. It’s a solution born from personal experience, failure, learning, and persistence.
If this app helps even one student avoid being barred from exams, then this journey is already worth it.
